European Union Military Assistance Mission in Support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine)

Abstract

This article presents the genesis, achievements to date, and challenges of the European Union Military Assistance Mission Ukraine. Additionally, this article highlights the challenges that have arisen during the implementation of the EUMAM Ukraine mission and presents proposals to maximize the effectiveness of the mission. The scope of the analysis is limited to the period from 15 November 2022 to 15 January 2025. The article is of a review nature and is based on publicly available information from the European Union and the countries involved in the mission, as well as scientific and journalistic studies devoted to the issues of EUMAM Ukraine. The article analyzes the factors that determined the decision of the European Union to establish and launch the military assistance mission for Ukraine. It also presents the legal basis for its activities, objectives, mandate, command structure, financing, and challenges resulting from the implementation of the mission, as well as proposals to increase the effec-tiveness of the mission.
